Video: Florence Allen – from a farm in Norfolk to the Football World Cup

October 18, 2016

Bristol City Women’s football star Florence Allen is at the centre of Women’s FA Cup sponsor SSE’s latest Dad’s and Daughters film. Featuring alongside her father Rob, the film tells Flo’s extraordinary story from a child growing up on her father’s farm in Norfolk to an England international and the challenges the Dad and Daughter pairing have faced together.

Florence began playing football when she was just six years old, and since then she has developed into one of England’s top women’s football prospects. At only 16 years of age Florence was forced to make the tough decision of leaving home in Norfolk to pursue her dream of becoming a professional footballer, moving to Bristol to join the City’s Women’s team.

Despite the physical distance between Flo and her father, the pair have remained close helping Flo adjust to life away from home. With her father’s support, Flo realised her dream of representing her country after being selected for the England Ladies U17s World Cup Squad.

The short film is the third instalment in energy giant SSE’s three-part ‘Dads and Daughters’ series, a campaign that celebrates the inspirational father-daughter bonds that exist across all levels of the game, from grassroots to the elite.
