Emma Pooley has won the World Long Distance Duathlon championships in her first outing representing GB in the sport.

The tough course which consisted of a 10km run, 150km bike ride and final 30km run suited Pooley, she finished more than half an hour ahead of the second place finisher in a time of 6:47:27 and broke the course record.

Pooley controlled the race from line to line, she lead the first 10km run before clocking a 16 minute advantage on the bike and eventually sailed over the finish line to seal a decisive win.

There were other successes for the British Team in the age group categories with a gold medal for Angela McGurk (30-34) in 09:45:58 and silver for Kirsti Sharratt (45-49) in 8.42.38.
