GB’s Jade Jones has won silver in the German Open Championships in Hamburg, competing in the -57kg weight division.

In the semi final round, Jones fulfilled her ambition of a revenge win over Chinese world champion, Yuzhou Hou however China’s strength in this weight category appeared too much and the 18-year-old could not overcome Yun Wang in the final, being beaten 8-3.

Afterwards, she said: “I’m obviously gutted to get silver as I came here for gold.

“But it was a tough competition with a lot of fighters who have already qualified for the Olympics. I had to fight three Chinese girls and was buzzing after the world champion. I gave that fight my everything.

“But I was tired for the final after giving so much mentally and physically.

“I’ve just got to get back to the gym now and focus on being ready for the Dutch Open and then the European Championships in Manchester in May.”

Elsewhere, British Open champion Bianca Walkden failed to win a medal, losing in the quarter finals of the +73kg class. GB world champion Sarah Stevenson was unable to compete in the tournament as she is recovering from an operation on her cruciate ligament.
