January 13, 2012

Commonwealth silver medallists Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork were unable to build on their first-round win over GB rivals Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier when they went out of the Maybank Malaysian Open in the second round in Kuala Lumpur.

The English National champions, who lost 21-13 and 21-17, were never ahead in either game as Indonesians Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Yu Yan Vanessa Neo controlled the 29-minute contest from the off.

Robertson and Wallwork remain at No. 23 in today’s new world ranking list with Adcock and Bankier going up two places to No. 14 following their Korean Premier first-round win over world champions Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei.

In the men’s events Rajiv Ouseph and doubles pair Adcock and Andrew Ellis remain at No. 24 while Mariana Agathangelou and Heather Olver are at No. 25 in women’s doubles with Wallwork and White No. 36.

The Maybank Malaysian Open, presented by Proton, is the second event on the World Superseries 2012 circuit.

The next Superseries event is the Yonex All England Open Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham from March 6-11. The All England is the second of this year’s five Premier Superseries events.

The squad in Malaysia will now return home to prepare for next week’s Swedish International in Stockholm and Robertson and Wallwork will defend their title at Bolton Arena on 3-5th February .
