Jodie Stimpson’s triathlon diary – day 4 and 5

July 23, 2009

Triathlete Jodie Stimspon kept a training diary in the run up to the Nokia Windsor Triathlon, where she took gold and smashed the course record in the process. Throughout this week she shares it with Sportsister – read on for part four and five.

Thursday 11th June 2009

Up at 5.00am and in the swimming pool for 6.00am for a 90 minute swim session. I took it fairly easy with some pick ups which will sharpen me up for the race. After the swim I went straight to work for 8.30am.

After work around 4.00pm I went for a short run along the canal which I love to do. But on this occasion I had to share the paths with some geese which made my run more interesting! Then back home for some tea and mum had done me a great chicken salad.

Food Diary

Breakfast: Before swimming – Powerbar

Breakfast: After training – Porridge with sugar & ½ Galia melon

Snack- Mixed berries of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries with a yoghurt

Lunch – Ham sandwich on brown bread with light salad cream and an apple

After run – Few crab sticks

Tea – Chicken salad

Friday 12th June 2009

Friday is usually a total day off for me when I’m not racing, but as I’ve hardly done anything this week I do some training. Training is always different going into races to make sure that you’re ready. Today was just a 45 minute swim with some very short sprints to sharpen me up for the race. I always find this helps my swim starts as I need to be ready for that fast start.

After the swim I had a massage at Birmingham University. I really recommend this as it really lightens my legs up and gets me feeling ready to race. I usually meet a friend for lunch on a Friday as it’s the only day I have off and today was no different. I think it’s important to have a day were I just get to chill out and not think about training but today when I met Clare I just spoke about the race as I was just so excited about it.

Food Diary

Breakfast: Before swimming – Powerbar

Breakfast: After training – Porridge with sugar & ½ Galia melon

Lunch – Chicken and pasta dish with loads of salad

Tea – Prawns and pasta with low cal thousand island sauce
